Examination Procedure and Guidelines

These Rules and Regulations are implemented after approval from the Academic Council and Governing Council of MIT University of Meghalaya, Shillong. They are subject to modifications as required and apply to students enrolling in undergraduate and postgraduate programs from the Academic Year 2023-24.

Examination Policy

The university follows a semester-based examination system approved by the Board of Studies (BoS) and the Academic Council. Evaluation follows an instructor-led continuous assessment model.

Mid-Semester Examination

Conducted centrally after two months of the semester, with a duration of 1.5 hours and a total of 50 marks.

End-Semester Examination

Conducted at the semester’s end, with a duration of 3 hours and a total of 100 marks. Open-book exams require prior approval.

Jury Evaluation (School of Design)

The jury panel comprises an external design expert and an internal faculty member. The course faculty will participate but will not assign marks.

Final Award Criteria

Grade Cards & Provisional Certificates

Grade cards will be issued 15 days after results are declared. Students with backlogs will receive their grade cards only after clearing all papers. A consolidated grade card and provisional certificate will be issued upon program completion.

Revaluation, Rechecking & Retotaling

Students can apply within 10 days of result declaration with the applicable fee. This does not apply to project work, dissertation, fieldwork, community service, or supplementary exams. In special cases, the Vice-Chancellor may approve re-evaluation.

Conversion Formula

The University provides absolute marks along with grades; therefore, no conversion formula is required to change CGPA to Percentage. The percentage calculation follows a simple mathematical formula:

Frequently Asked Questions

If a student is caught using unfair means, an Examination Sub-committee (Unfair Means Investigation Committee) will inquire into the matter and recommend the penalties and punishments to the Board of Examinations. Depending on the severity, the committee will decide on the necessary actions.

No, the student must present their case themselves and cannot engage a legal practitioner during the inquiry process.

If the student fails to attend the inquiry on the specified date, the committee will proceed with the investigation and impose the necessary penalties and punishments based on the available evidence.

The final degree certificate will be awarded during the Convocation ceremony. If a student is unable to attend, the certificate will be mailed upon receipt of postal charges. Alternatively, students can collect their certificate from the exam cell by paying the required charges.

A Gold Medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest CGPA in the final semester, with no back papers, no year gaps, and no disciplinary cases. If the top student is unable to fulfill these criteria, the second top CGPA will be considered for the award.
